Hello, first post so here goes....
Looking at buying a 1985 240 wagon but the fuel injectors aren't working. The car has both new fuel pumps, regulator and new injector relay. Owner has verified the pumps work and delivering fuel to the rail at 100+ psi. Owner says it will fire and run if you spray starting fluid into the air intake......Looks like a very clean well taken care of car previously.
I'm suspecting the ignition impulse sensor or hall sensor I'm told its called. I believe its located inside the dizzy...Is this correct?
Any other suspects?
Thanks for the help.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
To start an engine you need two basics: fuel and spark. If the engine will start using starting fluid it must have a spark so you should be looking at the fuel side not the impulse sensor.
On the cars fitted with the Bosch LH-Jetronic fuel injection system there is a 25 amp blade fuse located on the left wheel housing next to the ignition coil. This fuse takes a beating from the weather and will stop the injectors working if it is blown or corroded.
That fuel pressure, if correct, is way too high. It should be less than half.
Bill.

The owner says he has gone through all the fuses....The fuel pressure is what he told me....perhaps I misunderstood but he said he put a pressure gauge on it and verified fuel pressure to the rail...I dunno for sure.
So your saying if the engine will fire the hall sensor is still good? Hmmm...what now?

Most owners don't know about the blade fuse, only those in the fuse box. Ask the owner if he has checked that one.
