Hello.I'm new here so please bear with me.
My Dad just got a 2004 Volvo XC90 T6AWD with built in navigation system in dash.
It seems to be working but there is no voice guidance while driving.
Going into settings I can program male/female voice, and change volume level.
I have made sure to press enter(not back),to confirm my selections, and can hear the voice and bing after male/female and volume selections are made while doing this.
The problem is that when I enter a destination and start driving there is no audio guidance through speakers.
Tried with stereo on and off.
By the way there is also no "turn approaching"warning/indication on the map display.
Not sure if I did something wrong,or there is something wrong with the system.
Maybe a software update will help?
Any information or solutions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Volvo-Nav.system.No voice guidance.2004.
Hey:
I have the same issue. Does your screen show the distance remaining in the top right blue square, or is there any writing in the blue elongated space above the map?
Mine too was working fine, then the voice guidance, the blue areas, stopped functioning! I still get the map with the indicator arrows, but thats it.
From time to time when I first put the system on, the voice guidance as well as the blue areas work for a short period, then after a couple of seconds, the indications disappear as well as no further voice guidance....
I don't know if the situation would be solved with an updated dvd from Navtec, I just don't want to spend the $200. and have the same problem.
Good luck,
should you find a solution, let me know.

Hi roncop.
We didn't want to try the $200 update either.
Found a solution that we're quite happy with.
Bought a 5 inch Garmin 1490 LMT.($164 a amazon)
Works really well.
Feel a lot has happened with user friendliness and software concerning vehicle navigation since 2005,
and so far we are happy with this solution.
Pros:Touch screen, easy menus and control,blue-tooth(for cell phone),lifetime map update and traffic.
Con:No sound through car speakers(but good sound through device).
Thanks for posting
