Great, resourceful idea.

- Bench Grinder
- File (yes you can file by hand)
- Belt Sander (turn the belt sander upside down for ease of use).
-Angle grinder..?

Ohhh, you must have the hydraulic tensioner right? I bet that is why I was so confused as to what you (and Ozark Lee's Timing Belt Writeup) were talking about.

Crazy, that's the same serpentine belt tensioner tool I made. However, I screwed my plug into another plumbing fitting that gave it a hex. Here is the pic from my write-up:

@ rspi: screwing on the hex fitting so the tool matches up with a standard wrench size - so simple and so much cleaner than grinding. Nice!

@ LamboSE5: thanks for bumping the old thread, would not have seen this gem from rspi! :D

Hi guys: IPD has a serpentine belt tool that works great for $29.00. The wright tool for the job will not only save your knuckles but will also save you frustration=Time. I figure if i'm doing the job I want things to go as smooth as possible. This tool can be used on other makes and models. Best Regards, SpeedyPete

Or, you can walk into any Harbor Freight outlet and get the same tool IPD sells for like $12, and pay zero shipping charge.

The plumbing parts run for about $4 total, work perfectly, and can be picked up even in my small town in Iowa. For me that's the point - I like cheap and easy. :)

It's all about the TT$ Ratio (Time To Money)
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

No problem

I was thinking the same thing. The other week when I inspected the engine running without the serp. belt (I have a thread) I borrowed an awesome serp. belt tool from a local garage - it ratchets in both directions.
I was trying to think how I could turn this pluming DIY tool into one that would fit into a ratchet instead of just a thumb wrench or vice grips. Why, cause that's cool. :D

What did you screw it into rspi? I don't want it to become too "wide", if ya know what I mean.

so, since the plumbing part takes the same time to use, takes less time to get when you need it, and costs much, much less ... :D
