New V70 T5 owner

Post by michaelbrooks »

Hey everyone, it's my first post here and I've got a few issues that are hopefully rather commonplace. I recently bought a 2001 V70 T5 automatic with 94k miles. It was one owner with all maintenance done at one dealership. Very, very clean car. Before buying the car I called two Volvo dealerships in the area and spoke with service advisers about issues with that year/model. Both gave me a few things to look for but neither mentioned anything about a DREADED 01 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.

Oh crap, what have I done?

It drives and shifts very well, both in automatic and in the simulated manual mode. The only oddity is that launching from a stop is much smoother IF I give the car a half second pause after releasing the brake, before pushing the gas. Without a half second between brake release and hitting the gas, there is a small but noticeable jerk (aside from the one in the driver's seat, thank you). Is one of the brake calipers slow to release?

Am I just screwed on this transmission or do some people get lucky and make it into the 150k+ range?

Other issues:
-The rear wiper has started coming on...and staying on.
-Wiper spray non-functional on passenger side.
-Blown speaker in rear door: where should I buy a replacement?
-Light is out behind half the passenger temperature dial. I'd think a blown fuse would affect a much larger area so is this just a tiny light bulb burning out?
-Message system says directional bulb is out, but all seem to be working. Is it a prediction or an electrical gremlin?

Any help is greatly appreciated. And aside from the specter of imminent transmission doom, I rather love the car...

That's the stop-neutral feature. When the car stops, it puts itself into neutral. When you take off again, it puts itself back in Drive.

Take that car to a dealer and have them upgrade the transmission software as soon as possible.

That doesn't sound like a feature to me. Sounds more like...trouble. Thank you.

This one has NEVER had transmission software upgrades done!!!
Get it to volvo ASAP, have the fluid changed, new software applied, reset the adaptions and have them do a new drive cycle, as for your other issues either you or someone is going to have to find them and fix them

Thanks for the reply. I have noticed that the stop-neutral doesn't happen when driving in the manual mode. Perhaps I'll keep to that until I get the car into volvo service.
