Howdy,
I feel our '83 245 with a single carb is running rich- is there any adjustments on the mixture?
The inside of the tail pipe never turns gray just light "black".
it uses less than a litre of oil every 4 fill ups
Compression test on all cylinders at 175psi-
55 psi oil pressure
we have a vacuum gauge on the dash and it idles at 19 " hg
I run it or try to keep it above 10"
any thoughts
thanks
hank

Is the carb an SU or a Zenith?
The name will be on the carb body.
Both are adjustable for mixture, they are a constant velocity carb that uses a tapered needle and jet to attain the correct mixture thoughout the engines operating range. Preference wise the SU is a much better design, giving less torubles, better fuel economy, and being easier to adjust. If you have a Zenith most local auto wreckers have olders Volvos on their lot and any SU carb from a 2300cc. B23 or B230 engine will bolt right on.

The carb must be a Zenith.
I do have some SU carbs from the 140 series.
Are there any links on tuning the Zenith?
thanx

Actually if you buy the Haynes manual it has a fairly good section on adjusting both carbutetors.
