1995 850 starting problems

Post by 95bolvo »

Started fine first thing this morning but after driving it for about an hour I cut it off and tried to restart it but it wouldn't. Turned over fine but just wouldn't hit. It seemed to me like it wasn't getting any fuel but I guess it could have been not enough spark also. Have plenty of fuel in tank. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and it restarted fine. drove it for about ten more minutes, cut it off and tried it and it did start however i had to use the starter more than usual. How can you tell if it's a fuel problem or an ignition problem ? Anyone out there with similiar problems and advice ? Thanks!

Sounds like it could be a fuel pump relay.

Get it to cut out on you again and pull over somewhere. Remove the Torx screws around the edges from the upper fuse panel near the windshield. Locate and remove relay #103, and then stick a jumper wire or paperclip between where pins 15 and 78 would be if the relay was in place. See if the car will start back up.

If so, you've found your problem! If not, let us know, and it's on to checking for spark.
