front end noise 850 t5

My 94 850 t5 has just developed a noise in the front passenger side that is baffling me. I have checked the strut assembly, wheel, etc and cannot find a problem. It sound like hard plastic grinding together only on braking, both in reverse and forward. I do have some loose fairings around the area however i have tightened them and the noise remains? Just as a side note I have noticed for a while now that when I takeoff by the time I reach the end of my street I can hear from the same area a brief and similar noise that sounds like, what I can only describe as , a plastic valve such as an air intake flap opening for example. This is difficult to describe but has anyone experienced anything similar?

Either broken strut mounts, cracked spring seat or broken/worn out sway bar link
