xc90 highway noise/vibration
My 2006 xc90, v8, 73,xxx has developed a low noise/hum and a very slight steering wheel vibration on the highway from 53-65 mph. It needed tires so I had new michelins put on it and a dealer alignment. Noise is still there. When it is making the noise I can swerve from side to side and the noise doesn't change. I am thinking cv joints first then maybe wheel bearings. Am I thinking in the correct direction? How can I tell left or right, front or rear? (I'm thinking front because of the slight steering wheel vibration) I is not severe but I want to keep this car in great shape and fix this problem before it damages my new tires or worse.

Can you have someone else drive while you sit in the passenger seat? My S80 had it's left front wheel bearing crap out. I could hear it when driving but wasn't sure it was the left front bearing. I had changed the same bearing 20,000 miles ago so didn't think it would crap out so soon. When I sat in the passenger seat, while I had someone else drive, I couldn't hear it, but the driver could and thus confirmed it was the left front bearing. If you still hear it when in the passenger seat, maybe try sitting in one of the rear seats, etc. Trouble with front wheel drive is that you can't just jack the car up and try to spin the wheel. I couldn't feel the bad bearing until I had removed it. Then if felt very coarse/rough...
