Removing heater core
How do you release the retaining rings where the heater hose attaches at the firewall, without the pliers? I don't want to break them.
No, you don't need to remove the retaining rings in the engine bay.
-Remove the upper "kick panel" (by your knees if driving).
-Remove the thin/long side panel along side the center hump.
-Remove the brake light switch by pushing a screwdriver directly up into the center release lock, rock it upward and it should release.
-remove the two torque screws holding the heater core in place.
-put a towel on your floorboard under the heater core, and remove the two pins holding the heater core lines into the core.
Once removed you can pull them out and push toward front (or rear) of vehicle and pull the core out.
I had to use zip ties and tie the two lines out of the way to get the new core back in place, but all in all this is a pretty simple job...it helps if your an contortionist.

Our first 240 saved us twice we are a living testament to Volvo safety. The S80 T6 is "just because I could" and it's a fun drive!

That's good news. I've broken more than one of Volvo's many handy locking rings. Thanks again for the info
