1999-2003 C70 coupe?

Post by driesbabe »

Hi Guys,

I am looking at buying a 1999-2003 C70 T5 Coupe.
My question is, all the pictures that I find of the cars for sale have a different gearshift console to my 1998 V70 T5 in that they only have the "w" button and not the "E" and "S" buttons.
I am aware that some of these (if not all) had the 5 speed auto box SN55-50.
Are these problematic like the ones in the 2000-2002 P2 Cars?
Thanks in advance

My 2000 S70 'sport' is the same - only has the W button. Previous cars I've had have had the E and S. Mine is 4 speed auto. Dealer said it's because it's a 'sport' limited edition.

Yep, especially the earlier ones. I have a 2000 V70 with this trans that we are nursing at the moment (though the new B4 servo cover made it much better)

The 2001 C70 models saw the 5 speed.

We all know 2001 Volvos are bad, bad things. Stay with a 1999-2000 with the 4 speed and you'll make a wise choice.

through 98 Volvo used the selectable S/E with Winter mode switch. 99 and later have the two shift schedules decided on by the TCM based on your throttle application. Less aggressive throttle use gets you the softer sooner upshifts of the previous E setting and aggressive throttle gets you the S mode.

Got the same answer when I aked before. With the TCM, there is no need for the separate selectors beside the W (this one put the car in 3rd gear from the start to avoid spinning the wheels). The TCM was new in 1999 along with the new ME7.
2000 V70 XC SE with 150,000 miles, still going great !
