Hello,
I don't know if this is allowed ...
If not I apologize.
I found a head for my 2000 2.9 - not knowing that there was a
difference in the valve sizes - 6 and 7 mm.
The shipper did not know either - just sold it to me.
I've got a 6 MM valve head complete - that appeared to not have
any bent valves - when I had the upper cap off.
Every valve seated evenly - in a normal fashion.
I've got $275 tied up in it.
It is boxed ready to ship.
What it needs is -
Cleaned - I used oven cleaner and stay on top of the time
you allow the cleaner on the alloy. Rinsing, wiping and
repeating - standing over it so not to allow metal decay.
New valve stem seals.
I would hand lap the valves with valve grind compound.
And reassemble and reseal.
And have a skim done of the head gasket surface.
This is what I did on the 7 mm head.
----------------------------------------------.
Here is a tip for those folks that have trouble with
broken head bolts.
The break - because they become galvonic bonded
or electrically welded into the alloy block.
I sourced up a small torx socket that fit the head bolt hole
in the block & drilled the center of the socket out so that
a 3/16 drill bit would go down into the center of the socket.
I bought a 3/16" left handed drill bit and gambled that the
drilling might remove the broken piece.
it did not.
Even with constant spraying of PB blaster and cleaning of the bit.
When I realized that I had almost drilled the entire length of the
broken end - I stopped and looked about for what would help
remove the varmit.
A long bladed torx male bit fit the hole I drilled and had
a 1/4 drive on the top end.
But it was still tight.
I tried turning it with moderate pressure.
It did not budge.
I put a 10 amp battery charger in the circuit.
That is I put the positive end on the blade of the socket
driven into the bolt.
And
I put the negative on the bracket of the starter housing.
All for about 30 seconds.
The next time I went to turn the bolt - the baby gave loose.
Spraying and filling the hole with PB again - I was able to
turn and rock back and forth - turn the
unit out of the hole - without any problem.
it took about an hour's time to do.
And about and hour and a half to get prepared with
finding a supplier for a left hand turn drill bit.
A person might not even need a left hand bit -
if they simply watch and get the hole drilled center
in the broken end and nearly to the bottom of the
end piece. The torx blade bit - was easy enough to
drive in and then persuade to remove the broken end.
This makes a good argument for using OE antifreeze
at recommended percentages and periodically cleaning
the ground strap (s) back to the battery.
Anything to help slow up galvonic decay of mismatched metals
eh ??????
