IPD suggests a software update (regent noted above) before replacing the B4 Servo Cover. Does this replacement remedy the design flaw you point to Fazool?
We have a 2000 V70 with a 5 speed AW55-50SN transmission that was built in 2000 ( I think it was July) . The B4 servo cover was bent and we had the 2-3 shift flare problem.

We had the software update done then had the cover replaced. The trans is not perfect but seems to be adapting after a battery cable pull.

BTW I would NOT be placing a Swepco trans oil anywhere near the AW55-50. It is not JS-3309 (or Toyota IV) specced.
It may be OK to use this in the AW50-42 which uses Dex III compatible oil.

+1 on the trasnmission oil for the 5-speed AW55-50SN.
It does need to be 3309 period.

As for the adaptives, battery disconnect/re-connect will only clear a limited range of values around the network; however, it will NOT put the TCM in adaptation mode.

Following the replacement of mechanical components (and fluid) the TCM will need "to know" what you just did in order to adjust the system's behavior to the 'new' environment. This is done with VIDA DiCE (you will need to reset the fluid counter, clear the adaptives, and place the TCM into Adaptation Mode; and only then you can perform the 'TCM Adaptation Procedure'). Having the latest TCM software is a pre-requisite (the earlier versions did not allow complete access to some features)
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

Multi-Vehicle or Multi-Service is OK to use.

AMSOIL Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Transmission Fluid

SWEPCO 714 High Performance Multi-Service Lubricant

Transmission Fluid
"Suitable, recommended, compatible"

Although they do not have the "Meet" they do exceed. Called my local rep who with his dad have sold Swepco for 35 plus years for a living and he did not bat an eye on using it in any Volvo's with the JS-3309 (or Toyota IV) spec. I will also update after speaking with a Local Volvo guy who uses a large variety of Swepco products.

Independent Volvo Service

I buy the Engine and Trans oil by the case but now I can get one or two-see's of the other stuff from Independent.

Found this floating on the web tonight doing some more research. Just interesting reading and no I do not sell it.

Reading through MVS posts, this thread in particular - more of a triangulation.
I am in the chassis range that Fazool indicates. Therefore, planning to keep the "sleeping dog lie".

Is anyone out there with all three procedures done, in what order?
1- Drain and Fill
2- B4 Servo Cover replacement
3- TCM (Software update?)

B4 Servo Cover change (and any mechanical repairs that may contaminate the fluid), then fluid cghange, then s/w (if required), and finally relearn. Important note: fluid counter reset is required when changing the oil to tell the 'Puter' there's fresh oil in there. That's that.
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

Wow! what a difference after the 1 of 3 D&F.
The good news is that this transmission has the good serial#01Bx. Relieved!
Good coaching, many thanks.

Both cars are now treated with 1 of 3 D&F, MOBIL 3309. Noticeable improvement, quieter shifts. 850 was black, watery, and stronger odor.
I will take two-week intervals.
Do I need TCM updated on 2001 V70XC though this tranny is outside of the affected zone?
