hot windshield cracked when hosed down with water???

I want to share an experience with you. I live in the LA area, and today it was 100+ F outside at 11:00am. I wanted to wash my car, and hosed down the roof first. When water hit the windshield, it cracked from top to bottom near the driver side. Car was just sitting there all night and all morning. Umm, that isn't supposed to happen, right? So, what do you guys think happened?

Can quite easily happen. Spraying with cold water will rapidy contract the glass as it would have been isolated then it would cool down quickly on one area and crack. It is advised not to wash the car in direct sunlight - wrecks the paint too.
