Maintenance Overdue

Post by ffronlee »

I can't seem to find this answer anywhere. I changed my oil/brakes last month and didn't know how to reset the maintenance light. I meant to google it, but I procrastinated until the Overdue light came on. I went to the dealership and they said they are not allowed to reset the light. The mechanic said I should check online. I have a 2010 S40, and I desperately need to get this light turned off.

Thank you,

Ron

You could look in the owner's manual, sometimes they have instructions.

As far as the dealer is concerned, they are full of it. Find another dealer.

Unfortunately that site does not work for the 2010 model, also the regular maintenance reset steps won't work since my car went to "maintenance overdue". I am stationed in Germany, and the dealership here won't do it. I know in the states your warren can't be cancelled for servicing your vehicle yourself, it may be different here. I real wish someone knew how to reset the overdue switch.

This is from ShopKey

1.Turn ignition to position I.
2. Press and hold the reset button for the trip odometer.
3. Turn the key to position II within 2 seconds, while continuing to press trip odometer reset button.
4. Hold the reset button for the trip odometer pressed until the original value has been reset.
5. The information lamp lights when the reset button must be released.
6. Release the reset button for the trip odometer within 4 seconds. The instrument gives an audible signal when resetting has succeeded.

Note: If the reset button for the trip odometer is not released within 4 seconds the service reminder indicator (SRI) is not reset.

7. If the trip odometer is already reset, the reset button must be held for a minimum of 10 seconds and a maximum of 14 seconds.

If the car is under warranty (and its 2010) I do believe they would be prohibited from resetting the light. I believe Volvo may be worried about someone skipping a maintenance, the dealer bypassing the indicator and then having a warranty-claim damage issue.

This is not restricted to Volvo. All the major European manufacturers will refuse to reset the service light if they have not carried out the service. Some years ago Saab would do the reset but charged the same as they would for the service. As you say, they don't want warranty claims due to a lack of correct service.
