940 motor mounts

Hey everyone, quick couple of questions about the motor mounts on my 94 940 non-turbo. My originals were broken so I replaced them with aftermarket ones and they vibrate like crazy! Checked ad rechecked the install and even ordered a different brand of aftermarket mounts. These were a bit better but still driving me nuts with vibration. Called volvo and theirs are $100 each so I bailed on that idea. Last chance with after market the other day and they delivered two different mounts. The one was way off and the other correct. I noticed that the correct one was much softer and more playable than my other two failed sets. Volvo calls them "hydraulic mounts" do maybe I've actually got a winner this time! The other ones I've tried have been like rock hard plastic. Anyone with any input on this? I'm waiting for the other "good" mount to arrive so I can try them out. Keeping my fingers crossed! Also, what is that little metal strap for that goes from the top bolt to the bottom? Thanks all.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

The hydraulic mounts are much better than the hard ones. If you still have vibration after fitting them check the transmission mount/rubber cushion.

The metal strap is a deflection limiter which is put there to................limit deflection of the mount.

Thanks for the quick response!! Ordered the good mount from Volvo for Monday. Not sure how I was able to get one hydraulic mount in the aftermarket? All the others I've received have been for the hard type. Somehow I ended up with one good one. The two mounts came in the same style box and one is completely different. I installed the other hard mount temporarily and it is worse than any other mount I've installed thus far. It is actually clunking around and sounds broken although visually no problems are apparent. Triple checked that all fasteners are tight. Seems like the mountain is somehow internally broken? I can squeeze it with a giant pair of pliers (Mount only) and the vibration and noise goes away. Can't wait for Monday and the Volvo mount! This is horrible.

Motor mount installed so now I have two hydraulic ones. Smooth again!! Awesome! It's all hydraulic for me from now on regardless of the price difference. Thanks again for the help!
