windshield wiper question
The windshield wipers froze to the windshield during a cold spell here recently, I didn't pull the wipers away from the windshield as I usually do in the evening if there is potential for freezing. In the morning when I went out to go to work, without thinking I turned on the windshield wipers before the windshield was fully defrosted....before I knew it the wipers were thrown off. Now the wipers stop in the middle of the windshield instead of stopping in the full position down. My question is, do I need to replace the wiper bearings or the motor? I thought perhaps the teeth on the wiper arm where it mounts to the bearing striped or the bearing itself. How do I fix this? Aaarrrgh!

Its likely an easy fix:
It depends on your model and year but generally speaking there is a tapered shaft that rotates. This will have grooves in it to increase the grip of the shaft when moving the arm. There is a nut that pulls the arm down over these grooves and pulls everything together.
Its common and likely that these simply slipped when they saw too much force. All you need to do is loosen the nut, pull off the arm, rotate it and push it back down, then tighten the nut.
You can stop your wipers at the top of their travel by turning off the car ( gotta time it just right, though) then you can usually move the wipers into the position they should be in.
Its a very easy fix. Don't fret.
