Another V40 with shifting problems
Another V40 with shifting problems
My 2000 V40 has problems shifting. Automatic trans that when you put it into drive will sometimes not upshift. The engine revs higher and higher, but it stays in a lower gear. Sometimes if you put it into neutral and back into drive it will shift. Sometimes turning it off and re-starting the engine will get it to shift. Sometimes, like now, nothing helps. I've done the rowing thing with the shifter. Fluid is clean and was changed within the last year or so. I've searched the forums, but have not found anything like this symptom. Plan to get the codes read on the way home tonight, if it runs well enough to get home.

Honda's are notorious for transmission problems and when it happens it throws the CEL and TCS at the same time. I just did this work for a friend this month and his car had 170K plus miles and on the original transmission.olddaddy wrote:My 2000 V40 ... Fluid is clean and was changed within the last year or so. After cleaning it still had the CEL once in awhile in heavy traffic with hills and after a DIY flush like this here it is totally gone.
The person who found the problem with the screen in the above link saved himself and my friend several thousand dollars in transmission repair. With all that said do a complete flush with a quality transmission fluid and see if it improves or possibly eliminates it your problem. There are 3 people at church with Odysseys. 2000, 2001 and 2002. I took care of the 2000 and soon afterwards the 2002 with 225K plus miles on the OE transmission

PS My post on this page refers to a Transmission Fluid called Swepco and it is really miraculous for the tough problematic transmissions. Been using it in all different applications for 10 plus years including an old Allison transmission on a large truck which only can go 65 mph top speed and with a complete flush with Swepco it was able to reach a top speed of 75 mph
