How to get engine codes

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

How to get engine codes

Post by raggmopp »

Hi all:

Got a 2002 S80 T6, had it for just a couple of months and it now has 109500 miles.
The wife put 85 Octane without knowing. Now the check engine light is on.

So, how can I get the codes to know what the check engine light means?

And how can I reset the check engine. I saw another post on this forum about pulling a fuse and/or disconnect the battery.
What about the radio? Does the radio need to be reprogrammed? And what else may need to be reprogrammed?

Many thanks!

The codes are stored in flash non-volatile memory and removing power will not clear them. You need to use a compatible scanner to connect to the diagnostic port.

Those radios connect over a network and identify themselves to the CEM. They do not need to be unlocked or reprogrammed.

Where did you buy 85 octane. I've been driving for 30+ years and never seen 85 octane.

2007 S60 2.5T AWD (Daily Driver)
2001 S60 2.4T (Daughter's Car)
2003 S80 2.9 (Son's Car)
1995 850 2.4 (Daughter's Car - sold off)
2005 S40 2.4i (Bought new - since sold)
1986 740GLE 2.3(First Volvo - sold off)

We live in CO. WY & NM also have 85 octance, most areas it is 87, 89, 92 octane ratings. In Denver it is 85, 87 & 91.
