Hey folks,
i was wondering if somebody knows if the head(without cams but with valves) are interchangeable between the -1999 and 1999+ 2,3 T5 engines? Especially the V70 I Series.
I am asking because of the solid tappets and hydraulic valve lifters.
I own a 1999(Modellyear 2000) probablly with allready the solid lifter, would like to know if i can just buy a older complete head with the hydraulic ones and just screw it on without problems.
As i understand the valves are different sizes between the models but dont know if anything else is different - the old sodium hardened ones and the newer ones - 6 and 7 mm thickness.
Thanks for response

The heads are the same b/w turbo and non-turbo cars on earlier models unless you have one of the early VVIS motors which had different inlet port shape (almost square)
After all the posts I've read about sodium hardened turbo valves I thought I'd do some of my own research on Vadis b/w turbo and non-turbo valve part numbers. It seems they are the same; at least on the '93-97 motors!!
Also if you plug this part number into My Volvo Parts Online website it is now superceded to a new number which is readily available for around $25 each on eBay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/160481269517 ... 1423.l2649
Interesting that the seller claims they also suit C70s which are all turbo 2.3l except the '99 which got a low pressure turbo (2.435l) for that year. There are 10 pages of matches for these valves. See if your car is there: http://www.myvolvopartsonline.com/parts ... eid=215507
With your 2000 model the head is very different with a number of engineering changes such as VVT.
I have both '99 and 2000 V70s and there are many differences as well as different part numbers in Vadis.
Tappets are definitely hydraulic in my '99 but not sure on my 2000 (I believe they changed in this year to shimmed solid tappets)

Thank you.
On my model should be allready the solid tappets(as i read different topics) but i am not sure, is there a way to tell from outside or only by taking the head off?
Or can this statement be true how to tell for sure:
if i have VVT, then i automatically have the solid tappets and that means i dont have the sodium valves and
if i have NO VVT, then i automatically have hydraulic tappets and sodium valves too?
On the list that you posted is no 1999/2000 S/V70, so which valve is this? The older sodium one?
And a different questions: on some types of heads with solid tappets should be a hole/gap/or whatever throught that can be the valve clearance be checked, but i found nowhere the information where or how could it be done. Only guides with removing the top half of the head to check and adjust the clearance.

If your car is a '99 LP (low pressure) TURBO you should have VVT on the exhaust cam and hydraulic tappets and the engine number should begin with B5254T
If your car is a '99 NA you won't have VVT but you will have hydraulic tappets and the engine number should begin with B5254S
If your car is a 2000 LP turbo you will have VVT on the exhaust cam, solid tappets and the engine number should begin with B5244T
If your car is a 2000 NA you will have VVT on the inlet cam but you will have solid tappets and the engine number should begin with B5244S
Hope this makes things clearer and more complex for you.....
