S80 T6 -03 will not start / crank

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80 T6 -03 will not start / crank

Post by dean66 »

no prior problems in drive, parked just normally to my parents summer cottage.

then tried to leave back home and went to start S80, following happened:
- when key is turned to IGN ON, there is only mileage shown and airbag light is on. nothing else is set on (no other warning lights or gasoline / engine temp level or anything), also no driving lights were on.
- still tried to start normally by turning key to START, but nothing happened. only that mileage and airbag light went dead also. after releasing key back to IGN ON, mileage and airbag light came back to life.

i thought, that battery was totally empty. but no. everyhting was working normally at key position IGN ON ; windows, heater, etc. but it won't just crank.

i checked all fuses (engine, driver door and trunk) and all were ok.

i also tried to close doors and lock doors using remote, locks works normally. after opening again, same occurs, will not crank.

i didn't have other set of keys with me, but maybe nect weekend i will be able to try other keys.

but what else could i try? any ideas?

thanks.

Arto from Finland.
ps. my T6 has run only 100kmiles and she has been always serviced in local Volvo dealer, so i suppose, everything should be OK still....

I'd try a "known good" battery so you can rule that out.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Hi again.

I took new battery with me and went to try it.

So my S80 was sitting couple of days by herself there almost in the forest all alone.

Before replacing new battery, i just tried to start. And it started just normally!

I have no idea, why wasn't she starting saturday =/ strange.

But anyway, this is now OK. I hope, such will not occur again.

Thanks all,
Arto.

You should go to your workshop and have them read out any stored trouble codes from car. There was something that was preventing you from starting the car and it likely left some trouble codes. I would have concern that the problem happens again and leaves you stranded.

Hi,

No error codes were in memory =/

The best quess was, that battery is the only reason for such action. Perhaps it is soon time to replace that original Volvo-battery=)
