Re: Oil Cooler Line
Two days and about 150 miles later, no leaks. I will keep this post updated as I'm sure many of you think the screw clamps will give way. We'll see.

I have also done this exact thing about 2 months ago - the ONLY difference was that the hose clamps i used were the nicer ones with stamped grooves and rolled edges so there would be less stress on the hose ends.
I didn't think to have the clamps facing in opposite directions - that's an excellent detail that cannot but help.
I like your suggestion of the plastic hood for the line ends as you threaded them up, it would have been one less thing to worry about and gives piece of mind.
oh, and NO leaks either. Man it is a PITA working around the bracket holding area!
*I spoke with Orland on V/S and was going to use his parts kit but just decided to try it on my own first. I would support him and the community if i wasn't doing it myself.

Well it's been a bit over five years since I replaced my oil lines with some rebuilt ones by Orlando. I figured this time I would do it myself so I revisited this old thread. I was wondering if anybody has ever tried the Gates Powergrip SB clamps that someone mentioned here? I've looked into them and they seem like a nice and tidy sealing solution. Just wanted to get some input on this particular application.

Oetiker clamp works fine.
Remember this may seem engine oil pressure issue that scares people, the reality is: the line is open and the dynamic pressure is very low, probably less than 20-30 psi.
A standard oil hose and Oetiker clamp will be fine.
In fact, "Orlando" used Oetiker clamps.
You can find Oetiker clamps on ebay.

Hi, I do not have experience with those clamps, sorry!rrochell8 wrote:Well it's been a bit over five years since I replaced my oil lines with some rebuilt ones by Orlando. I am curious did the rebuilt hoses start to leak somewhere, or is it just time?

No experience with Powergrip clamps, but I wouldn't want a thermoplastic clamp and it states it is for silicone hoses.
The Volvo dealer has decent clamps, or anything with a rolled edge.

1+,
A 5-yr-old rebuilt hose should not leak.
Chances are it leaks at the green O-rings.
My green O-rings leaked after 2 years (P.O. had it replaced at local dealer).
I took the rectangular plate out and flip it around/reseat the lines, no leak since, info in forum.

My local hydraulic shop rebuilds them for about $22 each.

Funny story, I tried 2 hydraulic shops around me, neither would rebuild the oil cooler lines. Both said they are not willing to do a clamp on the originals fittings, too risky. They are farm equipment shops, not trucker shops, I wonder if that has something to do with it. We all know it's not risky, but they're not willing to take a chance. Disappointing I was sure it would be a quick and easy fix ...
