Transmission pump

Post by awahldo4 »

Hello. I am wondering if anyone knows how to extract the transmission pump from the housing that surrounds it, I have removed the torx bolts but it seems to be pressed together with the piece housing the clutch pack (the stator). Please help! I need to get in there to see if the pump is indeed my problem. Thanks! Any guide, manual, or pics would be greatly appreciated.

This is where I'm at:

DO you have the new pump?
The brake housing will have to have the friction linings loaded back into it.
Probably have to remove the apply piston out of yours and install it back into the new one unless it is a complete used part.
The piston has springs and you will need a way to press it.
I would suggest going to a trans shop and having them ready the part to go back in.

The torque converter I have here that worked fine has the turbine splined hub floating around and a thrust washer that moves around..

The item in the second attached file illustration labeled 554 (input shaft with C1 drum) needs to come out and be splined in fully into the brake housing that is part of the pump. You'll not be able to get it fit back in in the case.

The brake housing? Friction linings? I was under the impression that once I get the new pump pressed onto the stator that I just put the rubber seal back on and press it back into place. and same with item 554 the large input shaft that entend out of the transmission from behind a couple sprags and such, I thought I could leave that in place and slide the new pump over it just like it came out. Tell me what you think. I'm glad to hear that I probably wont need a new torque converter.

You have an attached picture of a pump with the brake housing loaded with friction linings.
IS that what you removed from your gearbox or is it the new part to go into your gearbox?
"This is where I'm at" leaves a lot unanswered.

That's what came out of my transmission. I can see in through the input hole and the two teeth to the inner pump gear are busted off. So I am purchasing the new gears. I am wondering how to get the pump housing separated from the aluminum piece behind it; in the first pdf file it calls that piece the 'pump stator' (803) not the brake housing. And like you said I am hoping to find a transmission shop willing to separate those two pieces and press them back together with the new pump gears inside.

I am not aware of being able to buy the pump gears. Usually they sell the whole pump because the housing the gears turn in gets scored if pump wears out or is damaged.
Used parts are another story. You may find used pump pieces at Transtar or some other used trans parts place.
If you can't get it at transtar then ask at a trans shop. Seattle is big enough to have at least one used trans parts place. Most regular used parts sellers (not pick n pull type places) sell everything exchange and the returned trans cores get dismantled and the hard parts get shelved and sold to trans shops. Hard parts are VERY expensive for auto transmissions from a dealer. Hard parts are things like the pump, the shafts, the case, the planetary gearsets, etc.
