Interesting- I see you are in Serbia- I am commenting about the U.S. market- I see that '97's over-seas are typically '98's over here... I'm just quoting from what I've found from vendors on line who sell mostly to the U.S. market.

The most interesting thing is that when i called Volvo parts store here in Serbia(Belgrade),and asked for pcv box for my '97 850 non-turbo,they offered to me pcv box#9146756.According to their catalog, every 850 non-turbo with 20 valves engine use #9146756.MadeInJapan wrote:Interesting- I see you are in Serbia- I am commenting about the U.S. market- I see that '97's over-seas are typically '98's over here... I said i'll get back to them when i check number on my pcv box, because i needed to wait for a week for shipment to arrive(they are ordering parts from Sweden).
And when i did,i found that my '97 850 have pcv box#1271988 just like s/v/c/xc70.
Could be just the fact that i have last serie of 850 made in '97 and that's why almost all parts are just like for s/v/c/70.
I don't even have vacuum controlled fuel pressure regulator like all of the 850's do.
It looks like this:

Under the far right worm screw clamp...take it off and ream away!
After looking at your picture for a bit, I notice a crud covered open nipple further up that is quite large- something that I don't recall on mine- what's up with that?

PCV write up was great
I did find that removing the radiator fan help alot at getting to the dip stick bracket bolt and the bracket that bolts to the underside of the manifold.
Tools I did not have that would have saved me time and cursing: 12mm racheting box wrench, telescoping magnet for dropped bolts, and 1/4" universal joint (I thought I could get by with a 3/8" universal)

I had an independent shop replace the pvc " box " a couple months ago and the car wouldn't idle following the repair. Also there was oil pushing out the dipstick tube and the oil pan gasket ( never before ).
I did a complete r & r and found the hoses from the base of the throttle body and cold air inlet were loose, essentially unconnected but more importantly I found that the short " L- shaped hose " from the bottom of the pvc plenum to the block had not had the hose end inserts installed into the hose, and then the mechanic had overtightened the hose end to the block to the point of cutting through the rubber. Essentially the hose end was destroyed so there was no seal.
After re-repairing all with new gaskets etc, the car run much better but still had a slight rough idle. The oil leaks stopped completely.
I disconnected the battery for 10 minutes to get a reset and now the car runs and idles " like new ".
Hope this may be of some value.

Does anybody know the purpose of the electrical connector on the PTC ? Does it control something like a valve or does it connect to a sensor to measure temperature or pressure?
