1999 V70 T5 PCV separator box mounting question

1999 V70 T5 PCV separator box mounting question

Okay...should the plastic boss on the lower connector for the PCV box point towards engine or the box?

Dog doesn't like the first one..

VIDA has a poor picture which looks like towards engine block.

My mechanic intuition says rubber part should touch plastic box, metal touches metal.

As far as I can remember, I've put it block side on my PCV changes. Not saying it's the right way, but it's my way at least... :D

I've been putting them to the trap side. I reasoned that the block gets hotter, why cook the collar if you don't need to. I can tell you they don't leak when turned to the trap side, FWIW. But that graphic would be my guide, I would go block. Will if I think of it next time(s).

It doesn't matter that much.
I have done it both ways, no issues whatsoever.
It is just a short hose to connect the oil trap opening to the engine block and that is all.

I always put it toward the block as well but I really don't think it matters. I usually put hose clamps on both sides but that isn't really required either.

From an engineering standpoint, I would "assume" it's boss to block to damp vibration and allow for thermal expansion differential between the two-even though it's mounted together.

Maybe that's why I'm not an engineer! :lol:
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
