Not sure if this has been asked/addressed in the past, and not really sure where this question might otherwise go, so I'm placing here.
I bought an S40 roughly 2.5 weeks ago and have had nothing but problems with the sunroof. Frankly I am happy with not having a sunroof and am wondering if it's at all possible/economically feasible to just have the whole roof section replaced with a regular, non-sunroofed roof. Is this ridiculous, or something that might actually be possible? I've tried Googling it and can't seem to find any evidence that it's been done before.
Roof replacement

Its an excessive solution. Cost would be well over $1000
A smart body man would just cut in a section but that also is way too much. Sunroofs can easily be replaced with good working units from a salvage yard. As long as the drains are clean and not broken all should be well with it.

Hadn't thought of salvage, but having heard that a new unit could run me $1900 I wasn't particularly thrilled. Not sure what I'll decide on, but I'll talk to the auto body shop first and get their take. Thanks for the speedy response!

The sunscreen is jammed (mechanic said it seems to be off track) and the passenger side of the window rests lower than the drivers side.

You need someone working on it that knows about sunroofs. The panel not closing flush on one side makes the shade hang.
The motor has come loose and let the cables slip out of synchronization or there is a piece disconnected or maybe broken on that low side.
Get it closed properly and then unplug the switch. That is the cheapest thing you can do.
A used unit install is not that easy to do and will take someone who knows sunroofs to do that.
If you find someone who could change it then you should have found someone who can fix that one for less money.

I agree
I had guessed it was leaking and you wanted to replace the whole roof panel. If its out of track, a good mechanic who has dealt with sunroofs is the way to go. Much cheaper and easier than a used roof or new roof panel.

It is leaking, but only very slightly (at least for now?). I have no idea who around here would know anything about sunroofs, let alone Volvo sunroofs. But I really don't care about replacing it with a working one; I'm simply happy that I have a car that's not going to crap out on me. I'll see if I can track down someone that knows about sunroofs and get this sorted, but if you have any suggestions as to what sort of places to look, I'd be grateful for the info.
