2005 XC90 Blowing white smoke after installing new turbo

Post by gabrielczyk »

I just installed a new turbo in my 2005 XC90 and after starting it up and letting it run for a few minutes it started spewing white smoke from the exhaust and in the engine compartment around the area where the turbo was installed. I thought it might be burning off oil build up from the bad turbo I replaced so I took it around the block to help it burn but it started blowing out more white smoke. Any ideas out there. Thanks and great site.

My 2004 xc90 is doing the same thing. We just put in a new turbo, and it's billowing smoke. Did you figure out your problem?

i just rebuilt my turbo and completed the project two days ago. when i cranked it up it must smoking pretty good after about 5 minutes the smoke was so heavy you could not see the neighbors houses. thank god i did it at 2:00 am. after 20 minutes the car was misfiring. after 1 hour the smoke started to decrease. slowly it was smoking less and less after putting in new plugs and a short time later there was hardly any smoke. this morning i cleaned plugs and i have no more smoke. once the car gets real hot it smokes very little. ----so--- it will take timeto burn all that oil out!! i figure by what i had to add, i must have dumped 4 quarts of oil into my exhaust. my xc90 now runs better than ever. be patient it will blow off
