Does 'Restore' loosen piston rings?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

dcarlson12, I used this trick on an old small-block chevy that had gummy lifters. I think it had a 6qt sump, a quart of which was ATF. Like I said, the ATF knocks EVERYTHING loose, so all that crap is floating around in the oil. The filter gets trashed quickly. the ATF does it's job, and everything seems none the worse for wear. As for longevity, I pulled the motor a couple years later and built a 383 cu/in stroker with a 400" crank bored .060 over. It ran fine up to that point, clean and quiet.
Fortunately, my S80 doesn't have the problems you describe. My daughter drove it for a couple years and it suffered greatly for lack of maintenance. The engine needs a good internal cleaning. Too much crud. I hesitate to try the ATF cure on this one because it seems that Volvos are more temperamental than old Chevys. If I knock all that crap loose too quickly, no telling what sorts of havoc it will wreak, or what will get plugged up.

To Dirtbag454:
How long did you leave the tranny fluid in the sump? i.e. miles driven or ?

I've experienced repeated results with AutoRX. Its not a quick treatment, but it works for sure to decoke ringpacks with high miles on them.

Don't you mean 'not' for all the three items? i.e. it will pull a vacuum if blow by isn't too much, if pipes are not clogged and if all seals are sealing properly?

Nope, I meant it just as I wrote it.

You will see oil vapor blowing out if any of the conditions I listed exist.

I guess I misinterpreted JDS60R's phrasing.
What I was referring to was suction from the crank case and he is referring to oil vapour blowing out of the dipstick...
