volvo 960 alarm...no sound!

Post by dejr1 »

I have a 96 volvo 960 and although ther alarm system(i assume its the bullgaurd II based on ther formation of my remote)seems to work fine...I have no sound when it sets or is activated. I have no idea where the siren is...i noticed there are 2 horns in front on drivers side below bumber....but i assumed theyv were not the siren as they are eaqsily detectible and wire easily cut...so if someone could direct me where to look forv siren...that would be great!

Check in engine compartment on passenger side next to engine. The outer disc and nut on that alram horn have a history of falling off. This mutes the horn.

there is nothing on the firewall on passenger side or anywhere in the engine compartment that I can see with regards to a siren or horn. the only horns are the 2 horns,..driver side beneath bumper. I did find on the inside panel on passenger side behind the stereo head unit a relay with a small speaker at the end of it and a small grill. I removed the relay....looked at the little speaker and saw that it was dry rotted. I took the two wires from the relay that were connected to the small speaker and hooked them up to another siren I had purchased.

I then triggered the alarm and I could very faintly here the siren in concert with the flashers... So i think my siren is or was a part of the alarm siren relay....my question now is...is there anyway to amplify the sound coming from the relay to my new siren. The previous siren was about and inch in diameter...my new siren is considerably larger and i assume will need more power to push.....any suggestions?

what does the siren look like...i just realized that the relay that i found behind the head unit was for thr annoying "keys in the ignition" bell...well dont jave to worry about that anymore....lol..But as I said earlier...i didnt see anything on the sidewall or firewall on passenger side that even remotely resembles a siren or horn.....there is a black disk shape item that looks like it is connected to the air conditioning unit that has a nipple or screw dead center...is that it?
