A\C Compressor Bearing Replacement
Mine is making quite a racket. Seems that in general its possible to replace the bearing for about $30 without having to pull the AC lines off and or evacuate the system. Anybody got experience or pointers on this...?

Anyone ever do a write up on this?

I just bought a whole unit for $300. I noticed the compressor was starting to make an internal knocking noise as well.

I ordered mine online from AutoZone with their 20% off promo. So it was the same price as other retailers but if I had trouble I could take it in to a local store to return.
I took the car to a local shop to have them evacuate the refrigerant, then after I replaced it, I took it back over and had them put a vacuum on the system and refill.
Swap took about two hours. You'll need the compressor, a variety pack of o-rings, 3 oz of pag oil, and some engine coolant.
I can give you more details if you want them.

iis4isaac, is your car an S80 AWD by chance. My compressor has to come out to, I can't find the procedure anywhere. Wondering if I have to loosen motor mounts and jack up motor. Is the new one quiet (I don't know what brand autozone sells, but Valeo produces this for Volvo and they are available in the aftermarket).
