hi all this is my first time posting to MVS but i have been reading for a while now.
As stated in the subject my 98 v70xc won't crank since it was in an accident. the interesting thing about this scenario is that if i jump the stater solenoid with the ignition in the run position the car starts and runs well. i've had the the body damage repaired and now i'm trying to fix the starting issue. any ideas? is there an immobilizer that needs reset? if so what computer system is able to do this? is there an airbag sensor that i can replace(in the center console?)
Thanks

If the starter cranks every time when Jumped then work backwards to remove and clean with 200 - 400 grit paper all the Post and Cables. My no start/crank problem was finally traced to the two large red cables on the Starter. I had even tighten them but age and even faint oxidation on the cable can cause a no full contact issue.
Since yours is from an accident and depending on the amount of damage to the car (impact) the chassis can flex a little causing things to ever so slightly move/shift and no longer making full contact.
Blessings,

BMK thanks for the quick reply.
I will add that to my list of things to try as soon as I get the car back from my local community colleges collision repair shop that is doing the body work
. Another suggestion I got was to try cranking it while moving the gear shifter because the Park Neutral safety switch is out of adjustment. I'm skeptical on this one because I already replaced the neutral safety switch.

This might be a silly question, but do V70's have inertia switches? I know Fords one shuts the fuel pump and battery off to stop flow and sparks after an accident.

I would have thought they would have for safety purposes. Could be worth finding it and seeing if the little red button will press down then, if it does, it has been activated from the impact and that 'should' (cough) sort the issue out.
