a/c heater unit not changing vent levels '96 960

Post by whitebulldog73 »

hello all an matt,

I have a '96 960 an slowly fixing all the bugs the car has. My bug im working on is in the AC/Heater unit. Here's what it does an doesn't do, The fan works an blows, the transition from cold to hot works, The fan speed works from low to high. Now when i want to change the directional switch(the middle knob that controls which vent the air comes out). No sounds of vent flaps opening an shutting, there is very little air coming out of the dash. When I check the engine side of the firewall, I have air coming out the holes where the a/c pipes come out into the engine bay. Is it the control switch on the dash, or something jammed or stuck in the air canal.

Should i test the vacuum on the vacuum lines from the engine going into the firewall where the a/c unit is located?
Should i check for obstructions in the air way?

I will appreciate any help.....Thank you

Verify vacuum supply at the solenoid manifold under the RH dash near transmission hump.
If vacuum is there at the end line, I think the line is white, then take the unit off and inspect for broken solder on the underside. The solder can be fixed easily by resoldering.

Hello all,

I have no control on my operation of my vents. I have vacuum from the motor into firewall, an into the heater/ac control solenoid. What else is there to check ?....OH, i did replace the soleniod with a used out of the salavge yard....still no luck.

What else is there to look at or check?

Please help on my '96 960
