Ok so me and my girlfriend were sitting on the roof of her v40 when we heard the pop. I didnt realize the sunroof was open, and therefore directly under us. Shattered all the glass.
This happened last night and it is pouring today and the rest of the week, so I really duct taped the crap out of it hoping to avoid flooding her car/water damage in the roof.
I didnt get a good chance to take a look at the sunroof because it was dark and we were worried about the rain but im pretty sure the only thing that broke was the glass.
Im wondering what is involved in this kind of repair. If it is difficult or if it is somthing i could easily do myself. has anyone ran into this before?
Also, where is the best place to look for a replacement sunroof? ebay?
I know i dont have much information here, but anything you could give me would be a great help.
Thanks,
Matt

I had to do this on my S40 when I first got it, this is from memory. It's not hard at all, but you have to be very careful and don't rush it.
There are four torx bolts and two very small "C" clips that have to be removed. Pop the sunroof mechanism into the "tipped up" position and remove the plastic covers underneath on both sides. Remove the four torx bolts and the "C" clips (don't lose them, they are very small). Lift out the frame of the old sunroof. Vacuum *ALL* the glass out of the tracks and inside the roof. Clean the tracks perfectly; if any glass is left in there, the track will tear itself up when the repair is complete. Use compressed air (Wear Safety glasses!!!!) to get every last shard out of the tracks. Make sure you get all the glass out of the roof pocket where the sunroof goes when you open it. Also make sure that the drain holes in the front of the sunroof mechanism aren't blocked.
Place the new sunroof glass in place and reattach the small arms with the "C" clips. Thread the torx bolts in but don't tighten. Snug them up so the slotted hole on the sunroof can move up and down. Push the sunroof up with your hands so that each bolt is in the bottom of the slot of the sunroof frame and snug up some more so that the glass will be too high when the sunroof closes. Close the sunroof (don't slide it back!!) and take note of how far the sunroof is sticking up above the roof. Tip it back up and loosen the torx bolts in pairs side to side so that you can lower the sunroof into place. Repeat the snug, close, measure, tip up, loosen and adjust a couple of times. Never adjust the bolts one at a time, do it in pairs side to side to avoid twisting the glass. When you are all done, grease the tracks with some white grease. Replace the plastic covers. They are marked "Right" and "Left" if I remember correctly.
The best place to buy a sunroof glass is a junkyard, here in NH they are going for about $125.
Hope this helps,
Keith
