Transmission fits

Post by ColoradoVolvo »

Alright, so im kinda of toying around with the idea of a manual swap in my 01' v70xc. When it comes down to it, i think the transmission is failing so i need to find something to of course replace it. I know it sounds ridiculous but i want it and i have a mechanics help free of charge if i do it. I have found a couple different transmissions for sale, but of course they didn't make my model car in a manual. So my question is will a 98 v70 tranny fit in? I saw on volvo speed, a guy manual swapped the same car i have but he left no details and won't reply to me. I also found an 01' s80 that someone is parting out and the transmission has low miles on it. Will either of these transmissions fit? Anyone one with any guidance or help? Much appreciated!

I think in the US xc's are only autos. Bet them European models not only had stick shifts but also diesels.
Were there R models with stick shift and AWD?

yea, all the r models were stick but i think maybe 10% of them were awd. Do you know if the v70 tranny would fit on my car though?

100% of R models were AWD after 98 and the trans will fit but you probly would have to use your old angle gear and what not.
93 850 5spd 320k (the daily)
94 850 T5 190K (race car)
95 T-5R wagon yellow (summer wag)
90 745 5spd 295k (winter wag)
67 122 2 door 4spd 69k :))

If you want to keep your AWD the ONLY transmission that will work is the M66 (6 speed R tranny) but there are other issues to deal with like your ECU.
Ask Justin (chilled man), the car will be missing the TCU from the automatic and will go into limp mode over 4000 RPM . I'm not sure if Lucky (ARD tuning) has solved this yet, you need to ask him

so what all does it involve to change it to a front wheel drive. Even more right?

Much less work than converting to a manual. Find a transmission from an '02 (or 03? someone that knows the P2s?) 5 speed auto FWD. Get rid of the driveshaft. Done.
