Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2000 S80 T6 ETM Replacement

Post by rysher004 »

Brought my wife's S80 T6 in to have it checked. It has approximately 103k miles. They came back with a laundry list of problems and parts needing to be replaced that totaled over $3500. One of the things they mentioned was the ETM. I asked my wife (since she's the primary driver) if she'd ever had any problems with acceleration. She said she hadn't.

My question or questions are 1) Should she have had problems leading up to this point, i.e. are there tell tale signs the ETM is failing or 2) Is this a situation where the dealership is saying she should have it replaced based on mileage? and finally 3) Is this something that can wait or is there a possibility she could end up stranded somewhere because it's failed without any warning at all?

I appreciate any assistance or suggestions.

Is she having any problems driving the car? You do not replace ETM based on mileage. ETM failure was a major issue with that particular year of S80's. You can look up other forums about ETM failure or google. If you have any of those signs then replace it, if not ignore them.
