1990 740 Fan Replacement

My electric fan on my 90 740 turbo died today. Came on for about 10 seconds and then started to screech and then froze-up. Tried to move it with my hand and she is stuck.
So my question is, what is a good replacement that others have done besides an OEM one? Do I even need to replace it? (My A/C has not worked for years, that's why I ask that) If I don't replace it, should I remove it to allow for better air movement?

I've owned my 1988 760 Turbo wagon for nearly 7 years. The A/C has not worked during that time and the pusher fan was stuck when I bought the car. I have never had an overheating problem while not having that pusher fan.
