What is it excaly this thing does?

Blows air into exhaust 50 seconds or so post cold start for 40-50 seconds. Together with retarded timing it creates combustion in exhaust that lowers unburned hydrocarbons when cold. Lowers emissions.

so the airpump is only useful in the cold start and about 2 minuts after cold start?
