i have the for sometime now 1st time joining the forum. Its a 2006 T5. And i LOVE it..has approx 84,000 miles and i am the 2nd owner. I bought it from Volvo dealer as CPO. yup CPO, so i was certain that there will no problems on major parts since i have heard bad stories about older S80 models. anyways i will be changing engine oil soon. i just purchased filters and wrench from fcpgroton and once they arrive will buy full synthetic oil. Yep pretty straightforward. Correct gap and type of plug in imperative for smooth running.

In our '06 S80 I cross referenced the already installed Volvo plugs with Denso's plugs and it came back with IK22. Had them in for 10k miles and no problems.

Check out the Repair database, you'll find tons of information about how to do various things, Its invaluable. And For plugs, Its extremely easy, Like he said, put the covers, pull the plugs, install new (oems) and make sure you have the sizing, or (gap) right. Good luck,

New Guy...My three Volvos are at 189K ('04 XC70), 194K ('02 XC70) and 210K ('02 S80) miles. I personally, based on 35+ years of driving high-miles cars, would probably NOT use full synthetic or even partial synthetic oils. My experience has been that synthetics are so clean, and so effective at cleaning the engine, that they make leaks. Regular old dinosaur fodder oil sorta fills small holes and cracks, synthetic cleans out those same small holes and cracks. Your Volvo engine is a well made thing, and with just regular 3K-5K mile changes will give you a lot of service. My '85 240 wagon was at almost 400K miles when it finally blew a rod, and that was with plain old WalMart variety Pennzoil and Castrol, and with my nephew driving it the last 80K. Regualr oil, keep it clean, let it idle 5-10 seconds before you shut it off, use the right coolant, happy motoring!

i will be DIY oil change this weekend..now you said not to use synthetic, i was actually going to buy synthetic. I dont like the idea of synthetic blend..just get synthetic or regular. But from past oil changes ( from previous owner) he did blend but for last oil change he went to synthetic. So should i now keep @ using synthetic or go back to regular. Plus the message on center panel display is kept @ 7,500miles and then the message comes on for service interval.
I am leaning towards synthetic.......

I do synthetic, changed when it looks dark on the dipstick (5-7k)
I think the deal is synthetic tends to thin out faster than conventional so it will fit through smaller cracks, so it will leak sometimes where the regular oil doesnt.

when I picked up my v70 at 100k I switched to synthetic, the only leak I had was one of the cam seals at like 210k
