My baby is gone
My 96 850 Turbo wagon has died. The aftermarket water pump failed (that was installed before I got the car when the timing belt replacement was done) it threw the belt and did massive damage to valves etc. I am looking at putting her down at a scrapyard. I can't see putting the money to fix it into a $1200 (what I paid) car. Just hate to see a car this beatiful destroyed. Oh well just wanted to cry to someone who would understand. My wife doesn't understand my love for these cars. Anyone who is even thinking about aftermarket parts for a critical thing like water pump ect. DON'T DO IT!!!! it may be cheaper now but not when your ride is gone.

Sorry to hear about this loss! What was the brand of the pump?
1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94
You might offer it up on Craigslist under 'Auto Parts', in the event there is another owner who has one that got hit, bad transmission, etc., and would gladly pay the scrap price to haul it over to their place, put their good engine in, then scrap their wrecked one. If no takers, then your conscience is cleared that at least you tried.
Long shot perhaps, but I, too, hate to see a nice ,clean car get scrapped . there was (maybe still is) a very nice looking V70 wagon on my local CL for much the same reason, but he started selling parts off it, meaning the carcass would have to go to scrap pretty soon to avoid having a Junk Car eyesore in the yard.

That stinks. I'm also curious about the water pump brand.
Time to figure out how to put a V8 in there

I bet it wasn't a Hepu. I'm leaning toward something autozonish.

Let me ask you this...is it a nice car?
Clean, straight, nice body, paint and interior?
Does everything work? Do you truly enjoy it?
If so, consider what a new car will cost.
Consider what the possible issues may be
with a new, unknown vehicle. Don't forget
what kind of insurance changes you may see.
$1,200? Consider that you got that car at a Discount...
Time to make the rest of the payments? Your call.
You hold the life of your Volvo in your hands!
No Pressure.

If the body and tranny are good, max to fix/replace the head would be what, 1500? Can't imagine getting a decent car for 1500, at least you'd know all the other foibles of the car.

Hi,
I am in TN. Any chance we could see a pic of the inside, outside and motor before you scrap it. My customers like me to get these and fix them up for their kids if they are pretty enough. If you haven't already scrapped it - let me know.

The car is too beautiful to part.
Why don't you get a new (used) cylinder head and start from there?
Of course, you need to change everything in the TB compartment:
- WP
- TB
- Tensioner
- All the rollers associated with TB
- Cam seals x2
- ? Crank seal
