2002 S40 Driving Me Nuts!!!!

Post by JoV »

Hi guys, this problem is starting to make my hair fall out and I think my nose is starting to bleed from thinking to hard. Wait, lemme take a second, my vision just went blurry......

OK, so I have the ALLData info on this thing and I am down to getting the cylinder head off of the block. I am soooo stuck it isn't even funny. I have so many little cuts and bruises on my fingers and knuckles, it's so ugly that my lady won't let me check her oil anymore. HRRRRRMMMPHHHHH.....

SO..... Here is what the prob is, the head will not pull away from the block. I have the 10 main bolts out, I have the headers off, I have the exhaust off, everything ALLDAta says to do is done, but they are so vague in their instructions on some parts. I am down to where it just says "Remove cylinder head from block", lol. OK, so.......

1. Does this mount need to come off? I have tried to remove it and the upper bolt is a PITA because the bolt sticking upwards is in the way. Any tips in getting that off if in fact it needs to be removed?

2. This seems to be immovable, I have removed a total of 3 screws and ALLData says there is only 2 and it is still stuck. I have felt all over for what is holding it down since there is no vision and I cannot find it for the life of me. HELP !!!!

3. Does this plastic cover thing need to come off? It seems to be preventing the head from lifting off. I see some bolts down by the crank that seem to connect it to the lower block. Should I remove it?

Oops. Nevermind. I just realized you have the 4 cylinder engine rather than the later 5 cylinder.
Les is more.

The mount comes off, all three bolts go into head but it captures the plastic back belt case.
Floor jack and a block of wood to hold up engine. Or the car's jack and a block of wood.
Did the the two bolts in the two bolt flange water pipe at front of head get removed?
