A few years ago I had the oxygen sonsor replaced in my 1999 XC when the car began running poorly, the problems went away.
In the spring 2005, a software upgrade was installed to fix a rough running and low idle/stalling problem.
In Decemebr 2005, the car began skipping very badly, an independent specializing in Volvos advised me to take it to the dealer as he doesn't own the vovlvo computer. Dealer claims it was a bad coil, the car ran fine afterwords.
In June/July 2006 the engine light came on and the car was hard starting and began running poorly, skipping stuttering etc. I was busy, and continued to drive the car for a month. The symptoms were identical to those in Dec 2005 (coil), except less severe.
The car began to intermittantly run better and the engine light went off.
In August 2006 tha car was still intermittantly skipping and stuttering, then one day all of the dash lights went on, and the car began idling very poorly, I turned the car off and could not restart (turned key with no response - not even clicking- within minutes the battery was dead (flashers and radio stopped working)
The dealer replaced the alternator and the battery (I protested the battery as I had a two year old die hard from sears that had one full year left on the full replacement warranty). The car was still skipping and now surging on the way home from the dealer ( a problem I clearly outlined when I dropped it off).
The car is going back to the dealer this wednesday, and I (after some internet research) susepct that the porblem is the ETM.
My question is whether these other problems (software, coil and altenator) are coincidental or somehow related to or covered up the ETM issue?
