Best/cheapest place for a new radiator? 96 855R

Post by rmorse »

Hey guys,

1996 855R, leaky radiator. What's the best/cheapest place to buy a new one? I'm assuming I need to go blue box on this. Is this correct? If so, Tasca?

Thanks!

Behr and Nissens make good-quality replacements. Shop around - FCP Euro, iPD, etc.

Tasca's gonna eat you alive on shipping for a radiator. Darrel Waltrip might be a bit more reasonable - last I heard, they were back in the game as well.

Ok cool. I thought I had to go blue box on it, which is why I was saying Tasca...

I just ordered blue box parts from Waltrip's web site. They run the same website content as Tasca. Placed the order on Sunday, got an email on Monday saying the parts had shipped, box at my doorstep on Wednesday morning. $9 shipping charge on $80 of parts, came by FedEx ground.

Check prices, though. A "Genuine Volvo" radiator might make your hair stand on end $ $375.00 in my old price list). The aftermarket's biggest weakness seems to be leaking at those "click-in" couplings Volvo uses..which was easily remedied on mine with simple worm clamps over the fittings.

If replacing the rad, it'd be good to replace the oil & trans cooler hose o-rings. byeboy has the right idea; IPD and FCP sell kits with the rings, 'snap clamps' and the hose clamps to keep everything in place.

It's also be a good idea before pulling out the rad to inspect the oil/trans hoses for leakage and replace as necessary.

A OEM rad for under $100, that's nuts. I would have tried jy. On the clamps, I have seen zip ties as well.

I would never use a junkyard radiator. It's too much effort to put the stupid thing in for it to break again in a year or two.

And he didn't say that he ordered a radiator; just parts ;)

Good call. I do know that my oil cooler lines are leaking, and I was planning on replacing both of them when I did the rad. Might as well just bite the bullet and replace the tranny lines too.

Man, I see brand new rads in the jy. I would likely only take one that still had the OEM sticker on it. Good catch on the PARTS statement. I was blown away for a few minutes there. LOL
