The infamous AC Clutch Issue

Post by trill2ride »

I am having AC problems where if it is really hot outside, it works for 10mins then suddenly blows humid air and then after that just hot air comes out.

Having read many posts about it, I am guessing this is happening because the gap in the compressor clutch is too wide for the magnet to engage it. I have read about many creative ways of fixing this, but I have decided to use mechanics wire to fix this.

My question is after I am done fixing it what happens if the clutch gap is lower than the spec (.4-.3mm)? what if it is something like 0.2mm or 0.1mm? will that matter?

Thanks in advance.

The clutch gap when compressor off can be very low. The clutch plate dragging when off is too close, anything more than that is OK.

I'm not sure I understand you correctly. You are saying it is ok to have a lower clutch gap than spec?

It is my understanding that the compressor will not turn off if the gap is too narrow
