Anyone have experience with the Beck-Arnley 4 bolt control arms on the partsgeek site (about $100 each). The TRW arms on that site are about the same as OEM. Dorman and "Replacement" brands are a lot cheaper.
Mine are at about 160 K and I think one is starting to squeak, although it doesn't seem loose.

Beck arnley is just reboxed parts that somebody else made, and usually overpriced for what you get. I'd bet it's probably reboxed meyle or even Uro.

I also have the'93 aluminum control arms, (having a '93) and used the Meyle ball joints. I haven't heard any complaints about Meyle and they were midway in the price ranges.
Ball joints are easy on the '93, But I did have to have a parts shop press my bushings in for me. It's a give and take.

Off topic, but I have the exact same 3/8" socket wrench with the red and black handle. Auto zone I believe. Very solid!
Or is that the 1/2" model? I would mostly use 1/2" on suspension components. Even then, they can be a pain to get off. Now that I've got an Aircat impact wrench, suspension work should be much easier.

That's the 3/8, but I also have the 1/2. They feel good in the hand, and I like the tight increments in the ratchet mechanism.
I only wish I had an impact for the spring compressors. The workout was good for me.

Hi. Can anyone comment on the Moog lower control arm (2-bolt version)?
The OEM ones did last quite awhile especially the passenger side one (~160K kms vs ~215K).
I've read that OEM could last up to 280K kms.
The driver side one (ball joint very loose) was replaced with an OCAP brand (bought a set, received these instead of
Hamburg-Technic) and only lasted 3-yr/~70K kms. The passenger side was replaced ~6-yr/40K kms ago (ball joint very loose).
Recently, had to change the drivers side again due to the OCAP failing (metal inserts in the bushings slid out, ball joint moderately loose). Used TRW brand as the replacement.
Want to get a spare for when the passenger side goes again.
My choices are TRW (believe they are as good as OEM/Lemforder) and Moog.
It's interesting to note that the OEM bushings looked fine just the ball joints were shot.
95 850T has almost 259K on it now.
Thanks.

Hi All,
I need to replace the lower control arms on my 95 850 and came across this thread. I see it's a little outdated but thought you guys might know.
I know you get what you pay for, but just saw some Dorman control arms on Rock auto for $22.00 a piece, they're listed as discontinued, hence the price drop. Does anyone have any experience with this brand. I'm sure they're made in China.
I also was wondering if you can use the earlier 93 to 94 aluminum control arms with replaceable ball joints and bushings in a 95. I don't mind doing the extra work initially if it would work and be cheaper in the long run.
Thanks in advance for the help, Matt

For that price I'd buy them. I've had zero problem with the aftermarket control arms from fcp.

About 3 years ago I had to replace the control arms on my 93 that had the aluminium frame, but at that time Volvo did not have the ball joint or bushes available, so I fitted aftermarket (can't recall the brands (I ordered a LH and RH from the same supplier). The LH and RH were different brands as the supplier wasn't able to get the matching one from his normal supplier so sent the other. I returned it as the quality was awful and the ball joint boot didn't even have and for of retaining wire so the boot lifted.
I had to replace one of the 2 replacement ones on about 30kkm as the ball joint almost fell out. I replaced both with Blue Box for piece of mind.
I would consider Lemforder, but personally for the potential for additional work/alignment costs I go for OE. When shipping to Canada (we pay up to 100% more for OE parts) I find after shipping OE pricing are often not far enough away from aftermarket to buy the cheaper part.
On this issue it is clear that you have to go with your gut. At least the 2 bolt control arms are easy to replace.
Neil.
P.S. I still have an aluminum control arm on a shelf somewhere in the garage I think.

Hi Neil,
I'm not sure if I understand you correctly, did you install the later 850 lower control arms onto your 93. Was there any modification needed? Would it work backwards as well, using an earlier aluminum control arm with replaceable components on a later 850?
Thanks, Matt
