How much $? Spark plugs, wires, coils, labor

Post by dejavu33 »

So just wondering how much I should be looking at paying for new spark plugs and wires, new coils and labor? This would be for a S40 turbo 2002. Also was wondering if the volvo dealership maintenance was the best place to take it for an inspection and replacement of this items?

K so the whole deal is I took it to the dealership to find out why it was what I thought to be shttp://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewfo ... =18lipping, however there conclusion was a misfire caused by bad spark plugs and wires and also suggested I change the coils (since they were going to be in that area anyways) total cost to do this would be 603.00! ouch for a single mother of two working at a minimum wage job! Following this there recommendations I said ok and now they have order the wrong parts delaying the time I was supposed to pick up my car, then they called on Friday at 5 before they closed for the weekend and said that all the new parts didnt fix the misfire and they now were going to do some compression test on monday! They have had my car for a week and they dont know what is wrong with it! They said an hour last monday and they would be able to have it ready! Not sure what to do and dont have the money to keep playing the guessing game! Feels like they are taking advantage of me because I'm female. Does anyone have an idea of what I should do?

Cars aren't easy to fix. And they are expensive. The mechanics at the dealer started with the cheapest option for you. A tune up.
most misfire diagnoses start there. If they know the ignition system and fuel delivery is good they can move onto the next possible problem, which is internal engine. Cars suck.

dejavu33,

If the 'stealership gurus' ran tests to diagnose your car, they should have gotten the diagnostic codes. Please ask them to provide you with that information and post back.
Fixing a problem by 'throwing parts at your car' does not look like a very professional method.
Thanks

If you used 87 octane gas instead of Premium in your turbo you may have burned/chipped one of your intake valves and thats causing the miss/lack of compression.
