Anyone tried an M56LK 3.57:1 on an LPT 850?

Seems like the excess low-end torque would be a good match for the tall ratios.

What cars can they be gotten from? Am I likely to find one in North America?

Could I possibly source this transmission and then marry it to "everything else" from a local donor car?

This is highly speculative; much as I'd like to turn it into a stick, the automatic is working fine albeit sometimes shifting roughly under partial load. Unlikely I'll ever be rich enough to ship an entire donor car from overseas.

Apparently it's not the LK, it's the M56L2, and can be found, presumably among other places, on a 1999 V70 2.5 TDI. I assume that's US model year 2000.

Figures there'd be contradictory information in the listings of what transmissions exist with what ratios.

Still my calculator got 10.96:1 if that L2 has the 3.07 1st, or 12.07:1 if it's the 3.38, both of which are shorter than the shortest AW50-42 1st at 9.95:1. So, shouldn't it produce better acceleration off the line than the slushbox, even though it's an overly long ratio manual meant for a diesel?

As for actually doing it, I've read that I'll have to swap those internals over to an M56 casing meant for a gasoline engine, can anyone confirm or refute?
