I'm about to purchase a Yakima Q Tower setup for my wagon. Yakima's fit guide shows the front towers at the rear doors, and the rear towers at the back windows.
I can't see how this would work, so I am likely going to run the front towers at the front doors and the rear towers at the rear doors.
Does anyone have either setup? Other than the sunroof being covered up (and the likelihood of bashing my head in with the rack bars.) Pros? Cons?

We have a Yakima set-up on the '04 V70. But we used Lowrider's and not Q-riders because we have eurorails ('I'm assuming you don't have these). We were desperate and needed crossbars in a hurry with no dealer around to buy Volvo's. If I had more time I would have just bought Volvo's....think it's just less of a hassle and also not as expensive. Don't get me wrong...we like the Yakima set-up and bars okay, but if someone had Volvo's for our wagon and asked if we wanted to trade, I'd say I probably would. Btw, Volvo's is made by Thule.
Go here and click on parts on line and then retail parts: http://www.borton.com/parts_land_frameset.html
If you don't have eurorails, I would highly recommend them. I've seen folks selling them over on Swedespeed, Volvospeed as well as eBay. They do make life a lot easier and they look good too!

I already have Yak bars and 3 bike trays. Not going through the expense of buying everything Thule now...

I'd say then get the Q Towers and see how they go. If they don't work, can't you send them back? Guess you already know this but you'll need the Q clips too...believe 50 and 51.

The part that confuses me is that the door frames are identical, yet they specify Q51 and Q52. If that's the case, then something is different between them, but I can't see how the clips would attach to the back windows. I am buying the towers from a local individual- the clips will be returnable if they don't work, though. Still... I don't know if the best idea is to go forward or towards the back. If they go toward the back, I'd love to know how they fit on the window frame.

If you were to go out right now and open your doors, just under the upper door seal you'll see an indentation...at least that's where the Volvo ones go...I assume the Yak's fit in that hole as well, but I could be wrong. So the door actually has to shut on them. That's been one reason that some people don't like this setup (some claim the door seals leak if it rains) and would rather get the eurorails. Here's a picture if you haven't already seen it: http://www.yakima.com/Product.aspx?id=20
