Brick vs Non-Brick

Post by rmmagow »

Doesn't brick refer to only RWD wagons? V90, 960 etc would have been the last. Or is Brick for any Volvo wagon.

Nicknames always seem to depend on who you ask.
Even BMW K motorcycles of certain ages are considered Bricks or Flying Bricks.
Some folks say the bricks are any Volvo with the RWD 4 cyl red block of old.

I was under the assumption that 'Brick' meant a Volvo that was quite boxy with square corners, so I call my 855 a brick but I can't see my S60R falling into the same category - I just don't know what to call it...

The Brits use to call their first Mini Cooper a BRICK; they were really strong little cars.

I've had a 245, 855 and a V70XC. They've been progressively less "brick". My inlaws have an S60 and a XC90 and I still refer to them as bricks. It's a title I've just held on to.

The 245 is definitely a brick, but IMO more like a cinderblock.

The XC90 isn't a brick, rightfully it's more like a boat anchor.

I think it was "turbobricks" that first got the word "brick" associated with "Volvo".
