Overheating/ Check engine light HELP!!

Post by Guest »

ok so I have a 1998 s70 non turbo. with 37k miles. yes 37k. originally from florida now in NYC. my wife was coming home today in bumper to bumper traffic when she noticed her coolant temp was drastically low at the bottom and her check engine light went on. she got home shut the car off and fan kept running. After a while it went off. I started car back up and fan wouldnt come on because the car was cold. I am assuming that the relay is bad or something. I scanned the code at autozone and it read :P0116 Engine Coolant Temp Range/Perf. What can this be?, I reset the light and obiously its a cooling electric problem. thanks

Sounds like a thermostat problem to me. Get it checked out ASAP or else you could be looking at some very costly engine damage to repair.

I doubt the tstat is the problem or the fan would have come on. the fan doesnt even come on with the a/c running.

Guys, I replaced the t-stat and coolant temp sensor and it wasnt the problem. It was the relay. I was rapped for $150 for all three parts but I got it fixed . thanks!
