I am buying a 2004 XC90 2.5T with 68k miles on it. I did some research and understand that there are some common suspension problems with this model year. I called the dealer where the current owner serviced the car and was told that all recalls have been completed on this car and the left rear wheel bearing was replaced in 2009.
So here are the major services that have been done on this car:
2007: Exterior light checked
2009: Engine serviced, suspension serviced, engine mount replaced, brake fluid flushed
2010: ball join replaced, automatic transmission checked, steering/suspension checked, recommended maintenance performed, light bulb replaced,
2011: parking brake shoes/pads replaced.
Also, the oil changes are done once a year.
So here are my questions:
1. The owner asks for $11900. Is this a good price?
2. Based on the record, do you see any additional major expenses that will be likely incurred in the next couple of years?
Other thoughts and inputs are appreciated too!
Buying a 2004 XC90 2.5T with 68k miles, any opinions?

Oil changes just once a year? Run. Run fast, run far.

I looked at the record. The owner only put on 1500 miles from June 2011 to August 2012. I guess that is why he didn't change it as often, but still...

I just got an 03 2.5 and love it, i traded my beloved Mustang GT Bullitt for it and havent looked back, it had 139,xxx miles when i got it too. just a great car all around, i even get 22 mpg consistently.
AWD of FWD? that would make a difference on price.pptmmt wrote:I am buying a 2004 XC90 2.5T with 68k miles on it.
One owner?
Are there other service records from the dealer? i.e. customer requests 60K service?
Price isn't so bad, but could be high, close to retail.
Here's an idea of what sold recently at dealer auction:
FWD
10/11/12 FRDKBURG Regular $10,300 54,763 Above BLACK 5G A No
11/01/12 TX HOBBY Regular $7,800 79,824 Above SILVER 5G A Yes
AWD
09/13/12 CHICAGO Regular $6,800 90,854 Avg GREY 5GT A Yes
10/31/12 SF BAY Regular $7,900 103,763 Above WHITE 5GT A Yes
I know the AWD are high miles, but they are the lowest 04 mileage that sold recently. This is just the sale price, no auction fees included so their cost will be slightly higher. A rule of thumb is every 10K miles in either direction is worth about $1,000 in the same direction, these results make no reference to condition, records, options etc. so it could be bone stock with cloth or loaded 7 pass with DVD/NAV etc.
It looks like it was brought in to the dealer for most service which is a good sign.
