I been told to align my 960 wagon that the struts must be removed in order to align it. Cost to remove 4 struts around 330 dollars.
Is this true or is someone trying to to make a buck?

Wow!! That has been the furthest reaching grab for cash I've ever heard!!
Of course there was a suspension specialist that quoted me $1,100 work on my 740 wagon when all it needed were some cone bushes worth about $25.
Shop around for a more honest trader. The only reason they may have to come off is if they're bent and need straightening.
Did they say why or just that 960s have this trait?

I thought all of the robber barons lived in England and were thrown out in the Middle Ages. You must have found a descendant we missed!!!
Straightforward wheel alignment does not need the removal of the struts. However, the 960 has a different suspension system to other Volvos of the same age and adjustments can be made to the camber and caster angles but the struts do not need to be removed for these operations either.
As precopster says, find another trader who is honest and, preferably, one who knows more about the 960.
Bill.
